Let go - an empty concept?

We hear the expression ‘let go’ a lot and everywhere these days, even in Disney movies. Sometimes it sounds like a distant concept.

In Indian philosophy, Mokṣa means liberation: transcending the act of existing, freedom from ignorance. We can see mokṣa as the final goal and, in this case, self-acceptance is key

Being human also means being self-conscious, which automatically creates judgment and self-criticism

We believe we are limited and we identify with things that are relative, such as our desires. We don’t approve of ourselves so the tendency is to constantly try to become different

When we accept ourselves, we are free and this freedom is not relative. When the freedom is relative, we are only free for a moment: when we forget that we don’t believe we are acceptable

You probably believe you need to satisfy a certain desire to be happy, nevertheless, occasionally, without doing anything, you catch yourself being happy, which implies that happiness is centered on the notion you have of the self

How can we accept ourselves and be happy even without satisfying any desires? That’s the meaning of mokṣa: freedom from the equivocated notion of who you are or what you identify with. When you ‘let go’ of your definition of what it is to be, there is the experience of union, happiness, and, finally, peace ☯.
